![]() Math Talk- What is it and why is it important? Math talk is incorporating math concepts and using math vocabulary (addition, subtraction exc. ) in everyday conversations with your child. Children benefit when parents verbalize and show kids math in basic household tasks. Opportunities to explore math with your child pop up every where. Going to the grocery store, cooking dinner or even ordering pizza can be a time to use math talk. Here are some ideas: 1. At the grocery store have your child count out an item that you may need. 2. Order pizza, ask your child to count the amount of slices there are and how many they will eat. After they eat, ask them how many are left. 3. Let your child help with cooking. Have them measure items or count out ingredients that you may need. Most importantly make it fun!
