This week our class enjoyed a lovely visit from the students in grade 3A. The students from 3A paired up with our class and read to them a classic folktale "The Gingerbread Man". To incorporate what we have been learning in class, I asked the grade 3 students to ask the kg's questions about the book after reading like who were the characters? What was the setting of the story, and was it a fiction story? Reading buddies allow older students the opportunity to develop fluency as well as a sense of pride in their accomplishments. It is fun for the younger students to have someone different reading to them ,as well as it sets a good example for them to look up to as they admire the older students and want to read just like them. Afterwards the grade 3 students helped our class decorate their very own gingerbread men ,which are on display in the KG outside hallway. As a surprise the grade 3s brought in real gingerbread cookies for our class to taste. It was a successful morning and we look forward to having them for a visit again soon! Check out some photos below.
