In class students are currently learning that every letter has a sound. It is important to encourage your child to say the letter sound and not the name. This is because letter names are less essential for reading. For example when reading the word dog, we do not say "DEE-OH-GEE",we say d/o/g/ . After students have had time to learn to blend with confidence , we will then introduce the letter names.
Journal writing is a great way for student to practice articulating their thoughts and begin using the sounds they are learning. Every Sunday when students return to school we share what we have done on the weekend. Afterwards students use their writing journals to write and draw about what they did.I encourage parents to practice on Saturday with your child what they might say and share on Sunday in class.
