Our trip to green planet was a fun day. children got to understand the relationships plants and animals have in their natural environment. They especially enjoyed seeing the real life sloths and the benefits they had on the trees. We also got some quality time together chilling and eating in the park. Check out the photos here https://goo.gl/photos/X891F8VkLBrPZ9V77 Our KG2C winter wishes display is up for you to check out. We spoke alot about how lucky we are to have such nice things and how not all the boys and girls in the world have what we have. I then asked the children to come up with wishes for the world. Some really sweet responses, like Rancen wishing for a real spider man to save the world. Our winter concert was a great sucess. thank you Ms.Joy for getting the boys and girls ready. Well done children you were amazing on stage! Little starts in the making! More photos here: https://goo.gl/photos/qoezbh22tuQ95KUx9

National Day celebrations. Check out all the photos here https://goo.gl/photos/7dN1zgFiY1nywQ9k9 Children learned about the history and culture of the UAE and created beautiful pieces of art work and writting for our door display. Thank you to Sultan who brought traditional food to taste.
![]() In science we have started talking about living and non-living things. We went on hunt around the school with such beautiful weather. The children really enjoyed exploring and questioning each other. Xenia asked is the sun living or non-living? Adam guessed the artificial grass was non-living as he explained it did not grow. Here are some snaps. https://goo.gl/photos/er3k1411SVHFJf1r5 Science Day-On science day the children got to experience the five senses by real life activities. The children rotated around the 5 KG2 classrooms. It was a great success. At my station the children were blindfolded and their buddy had to direct them around an obstacle course. It was a lot of fun for the children but also thought them about the importance of our eye sight. Here we are leading our friends and giving directions: https://goo.gl/photos/GJWQvfqPuTiqR7bYA Morning Work- If you were wondering what we get up to in the mornings. Here is a glimpse of what we do. Children have time to choose freely from a range of literacy games and activities this helps build their skills in reading and writing. It is important for them to settle in the mornings before we start our lesson so remember parents be on time. ![]() Counselor Lesson- Ms.Walters came to our class to teach the children about ways to be responsible. They were divided into two teams and could gain extra points by getting the ball in. Here they are having lots of fun while learning what it means to be responsible: https://goo.gl/photos/wcAyiBkD4zMy8uKg9 Picnic Time- The weather is so nice in Dubai at the moment so it is the perfect opportunity to have snack outside, get some fresh air and relax. children love a change of scenery. Here are the pictures https://goo.gl/photos/TbukkWxtsgDQyGQ78
Collaboration work- we were working together discussing the different senses. It is lovely to see the children sharing ideas and working as a team. Check out the pictures here. https://goo.gl/photos/7ucMoayzGE1gZcrB6 Math Stations- a chance to reinforce concepts learned with hands on materials, while still having fun. Check us out here: https://goo.gl/photos/sLHXf8N6Usms5KLV6 Indoor and Outdoor play- Play allows children to use their creativity while developing their imagination and physical, cognitive, and emotional strength. Play is important to healthy brain development. It is through play that children at a very early age engage and interact in the world around them. Here we are enjoying the world around us through play. https://goo.gl/photos/NSC8zdBQrPYU3c3r9
![]() This week we have been finishing our forces and motion unit. I introduced using Bee-Bots to the children, which is a new resources we have here at CAS that helps children in using Technology. The children enjoyed planning a path for the Bee-Bot to follow, using straight lines. Again they were showing how good they are at problem solving. https://goo.gl/photos/sLu1c2MsMDV8Z66j7 ![]() Also this week was very busy with our Halloween celebrations. The children were engaged in fun stations and a chances for hands on learning with investigating inside the pumpkin, measuring and mixing rice crispy buns and Halloween crafts for fine motor skills. A BIG THANK YOU to Hanaa our class Mom, for providing all the decorations and making sure we had everything needed to make it a special day. Thank you also to the parents who volunteered on the day to help out, all who attended and all the wonderful goodies you provided!! We can only achieve such events with your help. It is clear from the photos below the children were very thankful!! https://goo.gl/photos/KCjyWCxfbSoooD3NA ![]() Also here are a few pictures of a hands on math lesson. We are focusing on numbers 6-9, it is important that children know these numbers inside out so that in later years they are able to quickly use this knowledge to help in more difficult equations. https://goo.gl/photos/khuLxZuqc726waE18 STEM-Problem Solving![]() In the Elementary section a STEM day was held, so we decided in KG2C we would also apply our STEM- science, technology, engineering and mathematics skills during our science lesson. The children were asked how to make a ball to go from a start to finish point but an object was blocking a straight path. They would have to create a curved path for the ball to follow, but I did not tell them this, instead I provided materials, let them plan together and then they got to work building. It was an exciting example of engineering skills on the first day with children trying to build ramps over the object. Eventually after testing we realized this method and many of the materials would not work. Tabatha had the bright idea that we need to go around and quickly used the train tracks to make a circular path. The children worked in groups of 2, recording their work as they went and adjusting when needed. They used their communication and design skills. On the second day they became real problem solvers by eliminating the materials that did not work and focusing on the materials that did work. Most of the groups successfully made the ball pass around the object and today we will finish all of our paths and redesign others. Check out how well KG2C are doing STEM activities here https://goo.gl/photos/Sj4jWWvy5QVGZv9t9 My Five Senses WalkWe also started our new unit in Engage New York-My Five Sense. You can discuss this at home and ask your child to identify their five senses. In school we went on a senses walk. It was great to see the children working together in their groups but also using their senses to discover the world around them. Check them out here https://goo.gl/photos/uJWv33QNDrV3XUGRA
Congratulations to Sofia.S. who got to take Max home last weekend! Sofia has been showing Ms.Sorcha and her other teachers how respectiful and responsible she can be. Well done Sofia!!! If you have heard your child talking about Max at home then let me explain.
Max is my toy pet rabbit. He is a sweet but sometimes lonely boy, so the boys and girls suggested that they could take him home at the weekends so he doesn't have to stay at school. I have told the boys and girls that I need a responsible and respectful girl or boy to look after Max as he can sometimes be mischievous so they need to look after him. Raz-kids
What is Raz- Kids ? Comprehensive Leveled Reading Resources for Kids Raz-Kids is an award-winning teaching product that provides comprehensive leveled reading resources for students. With hundreds of eBooks offered at 29 different levels of reading difficulty, it's easy to put the right content in every student's hands. Kids access their leveled text through an interactive learning portal designed to keep them motivated and engaged. Every eBook is available in online and mobile formats, and allows students to listen to, read at their own pace, and record themselves reading. Students then take a corresponding eQuiz complete with an extended answer response to test comprehension and determine future instruction needs. Once a child has read ten or more of the leveled eBooks and passed each of the corresponding eQuizzes, they advance on to the next reading level where they have access to lengthier and more difficult text. How does my child login? I have printed and laminated each child their own login and password and sent it home in their folders. Kids A-Z Login Instructions Step 1: Go to www.kidsa-z.com or download RAZ-KIDS app on iPad. Step 2: Enter or choose the teacher's username, akg2b1 Step 3: Your child finds his or her username on the class chart, Step 4: Your child enters his or her password Please encourage your child to read and listen to stories for 10 minutes a day. This is an amazing program and I have seen great results with my students who use this program on a daily basis. No help from parents is needed, this program is completely student and child friendly. So lets have some fun and lets start Reading! We made our decorations for our Halloween door. We encourage children to be in charge of their own learning and make choices independently. As you can see with the final result on the door no two witches are the same, which is exactly what we want. The children made their own choices and the outcome is some very colorful, scary witches. https://goo.gl/photos/tJBzz9FVnvp22L7k9 We accompanied their art piece with some rhyming poems about witches using words such as cat, bat and rat.
We have just finished our first unit of Engage New York Listening Strand. We reviewed the unit by allowing students to re-tell familiar fables and by working on rhyming words. https://goo.gl/photos/4gfrkVovP6UtqwWq9 If your child is unable to identify a rhyming word please use this website to revise them. http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/ks1bitesize/literacy/rhyme/maincontainer_001.swf We had a very successful first KG2 field trip. Thank you all for paying on a timely manner. The children had fun experimenting with forces and motion in real life. They were well behaved and listened carefully, which made it an enjoyable trip for us all. Well done KG2C!!! Click below to see some of the pictures. https://goo.gl/photos/9jUNZWSRTgTSoYvK9 |
