Ski DubaiIn KG2C we have been learning about different types of animals in English and Science. We are focusing on ways animals adapt to their environments and looking at why animals live in certain places. The penguins were a perfect study and we were delighted to get to meet the penguins and learn more about them last week. The children also got to experience colder temperatures and as we will be learning about server weather very soon it was a good opportunity to experience firsthand the importance for weather forecasting. It was so much fun meeting the penguins and playing in the snow. Thanks to all the parents who came to help with getting us dressed. Valentine's DayWhat a bunch of absolute cuties!! Days like this make me appreciate even more the wonderful loving kids I have in my class. Thank you to all the parents that made personalized tokens for all the kids, brought goodies for the kids to eat and for thinking of me also. We had a great day, writing about what love is, using hearts to do subtraction and giving tokens of love to each other. Nikol wrote love is loving your Mom and Dad. Assia wrote love is kissing your Mom. Hassan wrote love is sharing your toys. Sharing the love in KG2C Check out the pictures here https://goo.gl/photos/skN3KmAmNobkscc89 100th Day of SchoolFinally time to celebrate 100 days of school! We had another fun day, making crafts, counting to 100, dressing like 100 year olds and making a 100 piece snack pack (thanks Mommies and Daddies for supplying) It is a lovely way to acknowledge how far the children have already come from the start of the year until now. Well done KG2C! Check out some rather funny pictures of the grannies and grandads in my class today. https://goo.gl/photos/BmJbp1rUy8b934pw9
Hats off to Arin for fully taking to the role with his walking stick in hand all day and Sofia.G who complained of a bad back. Sports Day!Well done to all the KG students who took part in sports day. Children were active, having fun and using their gross motor skills. Physical education is so important for children. It helps keep them healthy, happy and gives them the release of energy needed to help keep them focused in class. Make sure to get out and get active with your child while we still have such beautiful weather in Dubai. Check out the pictures here https://goo.gl/photos/p6KaJsXzSHhpCE559
Career Day What a fun day we had. Learning about many other careers and going to a real market. We even got to see a fire truck and spray the hose like a real fire man. We had an architect, a professor and a fashion designer visit the school and talk to the kids. KG2C were all so polite and respectful. Ms.Sorcha was very proud of their listening skills. Also they were asking and answering questions on topic. WELL DONE KG2C!!! Check out what KG2C want to be when they grow up here https://goo.gl/photos/KrZqpQXMMxE3F3aM6
The children all did amazing in presenting their facts about their countries. It was a lovely and interesting activity for us all. We learned about each others cultures and got to taste some yummy treats also. Thank you for your help parents. Building speaking and presenting skills from an early age will help build confidence in public speaking for the higher grades. Well done KG2C.

KG2C have designed and built their own bird houses. We gathered information on the needs of birds in the UAE and designed a house that would accommodate those needs. We also looked at the problem of predators and developed sketches of our model to solve this problem. We observed which materials would be best suited. We engineered our houses independently. Check out the link below for some more pictures.

Time to Plant Some SeedsWe have been getting our hands dirty and planting our garden. We decided to grow some carrots for Max as he sometimes ends up stealing all of ours. We are also doing a plant experiment to find out the effects of removing some of the plants needs. The children have really enjoyed watching and caring for the plants. They are using vocabulary words such as photosynthesis and pollination. They were surprised to see the little plant put in the dark, had grown and was searching for light to survive. Children learn best by doing hands on activities. Check out this link for more pictures https://goo.gl/photos/b7kicLaveyBCvxf78 Building a fenceIn KG2C we have been learning all about plants. Next week we hope to start planing as we learn about what a plant needs. The children designed and made a fence to protect the plants once they start growing. It was very interesting to see the all the very different designs. Check them out in our KG2 flower bed, outside the class or look at the pictures here https://goo.gl/photos/NmqoD8brdtTK6Bda8 Skills LessonCVC fun with shaving foamThe kids had lots of fun writing CVC words in shaving foam. They had to sound out and blend the words with the sounds we have covered so far. Check them out here. Here are some more pictures https://goo.gl/photos/HQ6v1aucQYJSfqqv5
Back to school!! 2017This week we are back to school and back to learning. Our main focus has been the Engage New York skills lessons, Unit 3, on blending CVC words. If you want to know more about the curriculum use this web address. https://www.engageny.org/resource/kindergarten-english-language-arts-skills-strand
We have also started a new unit in Math. The children are starting to do addition. A lot of the children already have good counting skills which means they can do basic addition quickly but this year we will be focusing on fluently adding and subtracting within 5 and breaking apart the number 10 with number bonds such as 6+4=10 7+3=10. Number bonds are so important in math and help build the foundation for successful future in addition. Number bonds help students see that numbers can be "broken" into pieces to make decomposing easier. With number bonds, students recognize the relationships between numbers through a written model that shows how the numbers are related. A number bond helps student clearly visualize the Part/Whole relationship. Here is a great website with lots of Math games http://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/5-7-years/addition-and-subtraction Copy the link below to see some more pictures. https://goo.gl/photos/bgMdurPMgxtLDs9R7 Winter Party
Here are some pictures of the festive fun the children got up to before the holidays. They enjoyed having a fun PJ day at school, drinking hot chocolate, making their own sandwiches and exchanging books with friends. Click on the link below to see some more pictures.
