Literacy Week here at CAS was a fun-filled five days of books, books, and more books! We had a visit from the Cat-in-the-Hat, sipped tea in the Green Eggs and Ham Cafe while listening to Poetry, enjoyed lots and lots of great books and had some quality time with our Grade 5 Buddy Cats! Hope you enjoy these snapshots from some of these activities...

The students (and teachers) had a great time chilling out in the snow at Ski Dubai. The kids were thrilled to get up close and personal with the adorable penguins and we really impressed the Ski Dubai teachers with all of their knowledge about penguins!
Then it was on to the park where we enjoyed playing in the snow and zooming down the slopes. Ask your child to tell you about their favorite part of the trip- mine was definitely getting close enough to touch the penguins! The students had an absolute blast at sports day yesterday! They rotated through 9 different activities and ended the day with a dance off. Dear Parents,
We are starting a new Rainbow Sight Words Program in KG2 as well as a daily reading program called R.E.D. (Read Every Day). Please look inside your child’s R.E.D. Folder for detailed instructions about the Reading Log. Your child will bring home their R.E.D. Folder every SUNDAY with a new book and a list of Rainbow sight words to practice at home. Please Return the R.E.D. Folder every Thursday along with your child’s book. I will then check their progress and return the RED Folder and Sight Word List every Sunday along with a new book. What are Sight Words? These are words that cannot be sounded out and should be recognized by the children, that is why we call them sight words. When they can read the word fluently, I will put a star beside the word on the list in their RED Folders. It is important that you help your child so that they can progress. We will have a colorful rainbow display in our classroom so the children will also be aware of their progress. These words should be practiced daily for about 3 minutes- please make it fun and not a stressful activity. For February we will be learning our PURPLE Sight words: I me blue a like red is my yellow and in black can see brown Tips

They got to earn and spend tickets on goods and services at the market and visit a fire truck. They also saw presentations by a fashion designer, an architect, and a college professor. We were in great hands today with several doctors, police officers, two teachers, a construction worker, a park ranger, a footballer, and a chef on hand! Here a few photos from Hamdan's birthday celebrations last week as well as some shot of the kids building a model of the Burj Khalifa today. Enjoy!
We have been exploring our outdoor learning spaces a lot lately while investigating living and nonliving things. This week we planted our first seeds and will be conducing experiments to see what plants need to survive. In math we are playing games with numbers and learning to add! I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing holiday. Please enjoy these photos of the kids making homemade sugar cookies at our Pajama Party!
