Thanks to all of the parents who were able to come to our Swimming Open House on Tuesday! The kids enjoyed showing off their skills. I was really impressed by the progress that some kids made in such a short amount of time! Way to go Ms. Katia!
Today our Kindergartners investigated how they could use recycled materials to design and build a structure that will reduce the warming effect of sunlight on an area. Sounds challenging doesn't it? Well you would be amazed by the structures that the kids designed and even more amazed by some of the questions I overheard during the building and designing process! We provided each group with a rubber polar bear frozen in a block of ice and asked the children to try to help the polar bear stay frozen for as long as possible. They were then shown all of the available materials and asked to first talk about and sketch out their plan. Then each group selected the materials and began building. Once finished we took all of the finished projects outside and placed them in the direct sunlight. Our control cup (with no shelter) was completely melted within 1 hour- but the most successful group still had ice after over 3 hours outside in the direct sun! Take a look at your engineers in action! |
