Our countdown to Spring Break included a whirlwind last week of school- KHDA visits, beaver dams, Geometry fun, and a field trip to the Sharjah Aquarium and Maritime Museum! The field trip was a wonderful way to say goodbye before the holidays and a perfect culminating activity for our study of pants and animals. I hope everyone is at home resting up now and will be full of energy for learning when school starts back on April 9th. See you then!

We have been learning all about the amazing world of beavers in KG2! Ask your child to describe how this fascinating creature changes the environment in order to create the habitat it needs to survive. They should be able to tell you all about beaver dams and lodges as well as the features that make beavers such great builders!
As a final project the students were asked to design, build, and test their own beaver dams using all natural materials from our local environment. (Thanks to all the parents who collected materials!). This was so much messy, muddy, FUN! A big part of our last two units in Math has been about counting to 100 and number sense. Playing games provides engaging practice for the children to work on improving their number sense and mental math skills.
We were very lucky to have a Grade 5 visitor last week who enjoyed playing subtraction and addition games with our class. For our second KG2 Science Day the students rotated through all 5 KG2 classes to complete 5 different activities relating to our study of Farms and Farm Animals. They investigated wool and feathers, tried their hand at churning butter, designed and built enclosures for farm animals, experimented with buoyancy and density using eggs, Literacy Week here at CAS was a fun-filled five days of books, books, and more books! We had a visit from the Cat-in-the-Hat, sipped tea in the Green Eggs and Ham Cafe while listening to Poetry, enjoyed lots and lots of great books and had some quality time with our Grade 5 Buddy Cats! Hope you enjoy these snapshots from some of these activities... |
